Welcome to the website for St. Helen’s Anglican Church, Vancouver, and a special welcome if you are visiting for the first time. We want this to be an attractive and accessible place for anyone who wants to learn more about us and our ministry. Elsewhere on the site you can find information about our choir, youth and children’s ministry, Christian education for adults as well as other opportunities for ministry and service.

St. Helen’s has been at the corner of 8th and Trimble, across from Trimble Park in West Point Grey for almost a hundred years. Our Centennial is in 2012! We are a group of people from many backgrounds and Christian traditions who believe that the God made known to us in Jesus Christ is the God of freedom and grace. That grace makes us strong at the centre and open at the boundaries, a community of Christians committed to the search for a generous orthodoxy. This search is part of what makes St. Helen’s the unique church it is, and we would be glad to have you join us in it.

Our desire is to help each person discover his or her God-given gifts – whether in creativity, service or leadership – and we welcome your questions about these and other aspects of life at St. Helen’s. Please join us at one of our services and stay for coffee so that we have a chance to meet you.

We are very pleased to announce that our new Rector, the Rev. Scott Gould will be joining us on May 1st, 2010.  He is joined by his wife, Suzanne, and three children.  Here is a short bio from Scott:

1 scott finalA graduate both of the UBC School of Music and The Vancouver School of Music, I have had a lifelong passion for choral music in Anglican worship. I love to sing and play the guitar.  I am a student (ongoing) of Rene Girard’s “gospel anthropology” and am especially interested in how Girard’s unique insights apply in spiritual practice and leadership.  In January of 2010 I celebrated the tenth anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood.  Married to Suzanne for 14 years, we have three children with whom we enjoy lots of fun and leisure activities:  skiing, sailing, kayaking, camping, cycling, movies, reading, ballet, piano, singing, soccer, and baseball (for starters).  We love Point Grey and have had many connections in the neighbourhood over many years, and we are looking forward very much to joining the parish and the community in May.
